Slovenian handballers secured a place among the twelve teams that will compete at the Rio Olympics with a 33:17 win against Iran at the qualifying tournament in Malmo on Sunday.
Having previously defeated Spain and lost to Sweden, Slovenia delivered a resounding win against underdogs Iran, which was only able to keep pace for the first 15 minutes of the game. Slovenia went into halftime with a nine-goal lead and kept up the pace throughout the second half. The national team had competed in the Olympics only twice. In Sydney in 2000 they finished 8th, in Athens four years later they were 11th.
