Google Celebrates Independence and Unity Day With a Doodle

Google has paid a tribute to 25th anniversary of Slovenia’s independence referendum with a special doodle commemorating Unity and Independence Day on Saturday. 

The doodle featuring the Slovenian tricolour with Mount Triglav at its centre is only visible on the Slovenian site of the search engine.

A click on the doodle takes the web visitor to hits related to Independence and Unity Day, celebrated today in memory of the referendum held on 23 December 1990 in which an overwhelming majority voted in favour of Slovenia’s breaking away from Yugoslavia.

A brief summary of the events leading up to the declaration of independence six months later as well as information about the Slovenian flag and coat of arms is available in English at a special Google subpage on doodles commemorating holidays and events.
