2017 EuroBasket: Slovenia enter semifinals, win shootout with Latvia

Slovenia continued their perfect run at 2017 EuroBasket. They beat Latvia in a high-scoring heated quarterfinal battle in Istanbul tonight. Luka Doncic (201-G-99) and Goran Dragic (190-PG-86) teamed up for 53 points to lead the winners. 

Slovenia set the tone in the first period. They dropped impressive 34 points in the first ten minutes to take an 11-point lead. Latvia however responded in a same fashion. They matched the tempo scoring 32 points in the second period and ensuring a 55:51 halftime lead. Slovenia were back in control in the second half. Kokoskov’s crew held their opponents to just 11 points in the third term to take a 10-point lead at the final intermission. Kristaps Porzingis (221-C/F-95) carried Latvia within 2 points with under three minutes to go 89:91. Then he made it 92:93 with under two minutes remaining. But Muric sank two free throws and then Goran Dragic converted a layup to give Slovenia breathing room. Luka Doncic then sealed the deal from the stripe. Klemen Prepelic (191-G-92) accounted for 17 points in the victory. Kristaps Porzingis responded with game-high 34 points for Latvia. Davis Bertans (208-F-92) nailed 23 points in the defeat.
